A true sailor at heart, Captain Ron Cheatwood, shares decades of sea stories, life lessons and tall tales with the help of strumming guitar, heartfelt harmonica or the soothing sound of the mandolin. His “island escapism” tales and tunes make him a favorite among Floridians as his lyrics tell true-life testimonies, and musical images of sandbars, sunsets and a tropical lifestyle.
Relocating from OHIO in 1987, he made his way to Florida to eventually captain fishing and dive boats. Working on the water along with his musical influences such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, CSNY and, of course, Jimmy Buffet.
Ron climbed the ranks from deckhand to captain on various fishing and offshore work boats throughout the southwest Florida & Louisiana seaboard and is currently anchored in the Fort Myers Beach and Pine Island area of Florida. He has played in various local bands throughout the years and is currently working on a solo/duet gig in Fort Myers Beach/Pine Island.
Ron is scheduled to release his first-ever sound recording, entitled, "Light the Light". It is an organic story about his career as a workboat captain on the offshore oilfields in the Gulf of Mexico.
Captain Ron Cheatwood is performing throughout the southeast on various dates throughout 2024.
